Tube camcorders, which ones?

Lynn Mctier: i know of only one VHS camcorder with tube and that was the Panasonic AG100 reporter. the CCD and the Camcorder were invented at the same time, but unfortunately, not by the same companies. Kodak invented the camcorder which was Video8 not VHS. Only their first model had a tube imager, all subsequent Video8 camcorders were CCD. At the same time RCA invented the CCD and its first application was in VHS camera CKC020, not camcorder because VHS did not have a camcorder, but was separate camera and portable recorder that were cabled together. RCA, Panasonic and Ampex cross licensed their respective technologies and came out with the first broadcast camcorder which was CCD and used VHS tape. Sony was right behind with BetaCam, but since Sony did not have rights to the CCD, the first generation BetaCam was tube. Now if you just mean video camera and not VHS camcorder, there were many tube models and brands made that worked with portable VHS recorders.I am not aw! are of any Sears LXI series VHS camcorder that was not CCD. trust me, you do not want a single tube consumer video camera for any purpose except for display. they were very low resolution, like about 200 TVL and poor color definition, even by VHS standards....Show more
