Trena Berum: Well, google is your best friend here! But don't be too afraid of how they portray global warming!Curious?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vz1HfeMQim4
Tory Clapper: Park your car facing the sun. Roll up the windows. Sit in the car. When it gets so hot you can't stand it open the door. You'll notice that the atmosphere outside the car is much cooler than the inside of the car. The reason is that incoming solar energy can penetrate the glass, but the infrared energy that it generates inside the car can't escape...different wave lengths are involved. CO2 and other gases in the atmosphere act in much the same way. Solar energy, having a shorter wave length can penetrate the atmosphere, but the heat energy generated, being of a longer wave length can't easily exit.....so the surface heats up. But wait...there's more! This excess heat has to go someplace or it wouldn't take long to get way over the human comfort zone. So what's happening to all that t! rapped heat? Short answer: Fortunately the Earth has a lot of water and a lot of ice. Both of these items absorb a lot of heat. Ice can get up to 32.1 degrees F before it melts, and water can get up to 212 degrees F. before it boils....at least at sea level! As we can observe that the Earth's ice is melting, and that the oceans are getting warmer the question of where all this excess heat is going is obvious. Of course the above is the Cliff Notes version, but without all the fancy math to confuse people, that's the entire story. As we generate more CO2 from burning fossil fuels the greenhouse effect will be more and more robust, trapping more and more heat energy....more heat, more climate change. How fast and how soon? There are different opinions, but nobody is saying it isn't happening...except the right wing radio dummies. Bummer for us, eh?...Show more

Joeann Hoyt: the theory of global warming p! roposes that man's activities are causing the earth to heat up,
Robin Tommie: The theory of global warming as a consequence of the rise in CO2, a known greenhouse gas, dates back to 1896 with Svante Arrhenius' "On the influence of carbonic acid in the air upon the temperature of the ground" (link 1) and John Tyndalls discovery of the greenhouse effect in 1861 (link 2)Edit: Wow Peter seems to be taking the same argument Bob is taking in stating that the greenhouse effect is false because it violates the second law of thermodynamics then post exactly the same statement. Unfortunately Peter seems to have a bad case of Plagiarism. http://johnstonanalytics.com/yahoo_site_admin/asse...However there have been various rebuttals posted and accepted. Brian Marquina: The atmospheric greenhouse effect, an idea that authors trace back to the traditional works of Fouri! er 1824, Tyndall 1861 and Arrhenius 1896 and is still supported in global climatology essentially describes a fictitious mechanism in which a planetary atmosphere acts as a heat pump driven by an environment that is radiatively interacting with but radiatively equilibrated to the atmospheric system. According to the second law of thermodynamics such a planetary machine can never exist.Nevertheless, in almost all texts of global climatology and in a widespread secondary literature it is taken for granted that such mechanism is real and stands on a firm scientific foundation. In this paper the popular conjecture is analyzed and the underlying physical principles are clarified. By showing that (a) there are no common physical laws between the warming phenomenon in glass houses and the fictitious atmospheric greenhouse effects, (b) there are no calculations to determine an average surface temperature of a planet, (c) the frequently mentioned difference of 33 C is a meaningless ! number calculated wrongly, (d) the formulas of cavity radiation are use! d inappropriately, (e) the assumption of a radiative balance is unphysical, (f) thermal conductivity and friction must not be set to zero, the atmospheric greenhouse conjecture is falsified....Show more
Whitley Leopold: global warming so dangerous
Donnie Bolio: Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation. According to the 2007 Fourth Assessment Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global surface temperature increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the 20th century.[2][A] Most of the observed temperature increase since the middle of the 20th century has been caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases, which result from human activity such as the burning of fossil fuel and deforestation.[3] Global dimming, a result of increasing concentrations of atmospheric aerosols that block sunlight from reaching the! surface, has partially countered the effects of warming induced by greenhouse gases.Climate model projections summarized in the latest IPCC report indicate that the global surface temperature is likely to rise a further 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) during the 21st century.[2] The uncertainty in this estimate arises from the use of models with differing sensitivity to greenhouse gas concentrations and the use of differing estimates of future greenhouse gas emissions. An increase in global temperature will cause sea levels to rise and will change the amount and pattern of precipitation, probably including expansion of subtropical deserts.[4] Warming is expected to be strongest in the Arctic and would be associated with continuing retreat of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice. Other likely effects include changes in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, species extinctions, and changes in agricultural yields. Warming and related changes will vary from regio! n to region around the globe, though the nature of these regional varia! tions is uncertain.[5] As a result of contemporary increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide, the oceans have become more acidic; a result that is predicted to continue.[6][7]The scientific consensus is that anthropogenic global warming is occurring.[8][9][10][B] Nevertheless, political and public debate continues. The Kyoto Protocol is aimed at stabilizing greenhouse gas concentration to prevent a "dangerous anthropogenic interference".[11] As of November 2009, 187 states had signed and ratified the protocol.[12]...Show more
Tillie Wynott: Apocalyptic "global warming" propaganda was given major amplification first in the mid-1980s by the Thatcher regime in the UK, with eco-supremo Sir Christopher Tickell as the principal mastermind. This propaganda was connected with the British government's struggle against its own nationalized and militantly unionized coal industry. "Global warming", then and now, is principally a slandering of the utility of coal and, to a lesser ex! tent, of petroleum. At the time, the Thatcherites favoured nuclear-generated electricity even though it was four times as expensive as coal-generated electricity. They have since switched preferences to natural gas.Earliest references to the modern "global warming" campaign per se date to a small conference held in Austria in 1984. Here the phenomenon was clearly a speculative hypothesis based on a simple computer model. "Global warming" was debuted, along with several other apocalyptic scare scenarios, in the notorious 1987 Smithsonian Conference on Media and the Environment. This conference marked the beginning of a renewed cultural offensive on the part of the international environmental elite. "Global warming" (along with ozone holes and species extinction, et cetera) was selected to be one of the main causes célèbres. To enormous applause, it was announced to the assembled media elite that the "environment" would not be treated as a regular journalistic topic by the ! mass media but rather would be an object for outright advocacy....Show ! more
Warren Kotter: I love how some people are now saying the greenhouse effect does not exist. These folk are whackos. If there was no greenhouse effect, there would not be life on this planet. http://earthguide.ucsd.edu/virtualmuseum/climatech...The person credited with first understanding the geenhouse effect is Joseph Fourier in 1824.Global warming is just an extension of the greenhouse effect. It is certain greenhouse gases that keep the earth warm by re-directing radiation that has been reflected by the earth's surface. With no greenhouse effect, the radiation would all be just reflected back to space as it is on bodies with no atmosphere. As the chemical composition of the atmosphere is changed to having a higher portion of greenhouse gases, the greenhouse qualities of the atmosphere is enhanced....Show more
